Jemez Pueblo hopes to harness power of the sun
Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico is working on a $16 million solar power plant.

The tribe hopes to create a concentrating photovoltaic power facility to generate enough energy for 1,200 homes. The energy would be sold to a utility company.

The tribe used a $200,000 grant from the state Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department and a grant from the Department of Energy to study the plant and is working to secure financing to build the facility. It would be one of the few economic development projects on the reservation.
