News From Indian Country interviews Mark Trahant, a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Idaho, about the 2008 presidential election.

Trahant, the editorial page editor for The Seattle Post Intelligencer, said tribal members have played key roles in the campaign. He said people like Gyassi Ross (Blackfeet), who works for Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois), have top positions.

"I think this election is different in a lot of ways but the one that just excites me is we've got Native people in the key campaign jobs where they can actually make a huge difference," Trahant told News From Indian Country.
