Native leaders are calling for the firing of the new chief counsel for Canada's Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The commission will oversee the healing and education process for survivors of the Native residential school system. Attorney Owen Young doesn't fit in that process, leaders say.

"I have a saying, you can't suck and blow at the same time," Mike Cachagee, the president of the National Residential School Survivors' Society, told CBC News.

Young represented the province of Ontario in a case against several Native protesters who were jailed, fined and held in contempt of court for opposing mining activities on traditional land. The Ontario Court of Appeal threw out the sentences earlier this month.
