The Santa Fe Indian School continues to demolish historic buildings on its New Mexico campus.

The school is part of the Bureau of Indian Education system but is run by the 19 Pueblo tribes in the state. The campus is held in trust for the tribes.

"After completing various assessments over the past 5 years, the Santa Fe Indian School exercised its sovereign authority and due diligence to take action by demolishing buildings to remove the imminent health, safety, and security threats to protect the students and staff of SFIS, including the general public," the school said in a statement to The Santa Fe New Mexican.

Some of the buildings on the campus date to the 1890s. It's not clear which buildings were demolished.
