By a voice vote, the House passed a resolution that apologizes for the enslavement and racial segregation of African-Americans.
H.Res.194 states that African salves were "brutalized, humiliated, dehumanized, and subjected to the indignity of being stripped of their names and heritage." It offers an apology on behalf of the United States for the "fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery" and Jim Crow laws.
A similar resolution could be introduced in the Senate.
