AMA to apologize to African-American doctors
The American Medical Association will issue a formal apology today to African-American doctors.

The AMA barred African-American doctors from membership, referred to them as "colored" and failed to take action to end discrimination in the medical field, a committee of experts said.

"The medical profession, which is based on a boundless respect for human life, had an obligation to lead society away from disrespect of so many lives," Ronald M. Davis, the AMA's immediate past president writes in the July 16 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. "The AMA failed to do so and has apologized for that failure."
