Tony Belcourt, a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe, is headed to the Montana Legislature after winning his race by just one vote.
Belcourt faced Adrian Main and Johnathan Walker for the Democratic nomination for House District 32. A hand count of all 1,270 ballots showed Belcout with 491 votes, only one more than Main's votes.
"It goes to show that every vote does count," Belcourt told The Great Falls Tribune.
The Republican Party did not put up a candidate so Belcourt automatically wins the seat.
