Descendants of Lakota leader Sitting Bull want to rebury their ancestor -- but not at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument as previously announced.
Sitting Bull is currently buried in Mobridge, South Dakota, on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. Great-grandson Ernie LaPointe said the family wants their ancestor moved to a private location.
LaPointe said the family decided against a burial at Little Bighorn in Montana because the site is within the Crow Reservation. The Crow were enemies of the Sioux and acted as scouts for the Army in battles against the Sioux.
There is still some question whether Sitting Bull's remains are actually at Standing Rock. LaPointe said he is willing to submit to DNA tests.
