Chief American Horse, a Lakota warrior and spiritual leader, was reburied on his family's homeland on Saturday, 100 years after he died. Chief American Horse was buried in 1980, in a cemetery in Pine Ridge, on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. His grandson, Joe American Horse, said he wanted to relocate the grave due to vandalism and development in Pine Ridge. With the help of Yoko Ono, the former wife of the late John Lennon, Joe American Horse was finally able to realize his dream. Ono gave the money for the reburial to Christina Voormann, Horse's adopted niece. "I wanted to take my grandpa back to his original property, wanted to take him back to his homeland," American Horse, who plans to build a cultural center at the new site, told The Rapid City Journal.
