An image representing an Indian woman planting seeds in a cornfield is being recommended for the back of the Sacagawea $1 coin.
Congress passed the Native American $1 Coin Act to authorize a new backside for the coin. The law cites Indian leaders and significant Indian events as potential designs.
Rather than go with a person or an event, the U.S. Mint decided to seek designs based on an agricultural theme. Indian County Today said 15 designs were presented to an advisory committee on Wednesday.
The new coins go into production next year.
