Leader of fake tribe in Utah faces new charges
The leader of a fake tribe in Utah faces new charges of helping a man elude a child sex abuse investigation.

Dale Nolen Stevens, 69, claims he is the "chief" of the Wampanoag Nation, Tribe of Grayhead, Wolf Band. Stevens and his cohorts were found guilty last month of operating a corrupt organization. Their "tribe" was declared a sham by a federal judge.

State authorities now say Stevens helped an Iowa man elude investigation by creating fake "tribal documents." Stevens is also accused of possessing child pornography on his laptop and allegedly told the Iowa man to bring his 12-year-old daughter to Utah so Stevens could "marry" her.

"That's the way Indians do things ... if they're living under their old ways," Stevens testified in court, The Salt Lake City Deseret News reported. "I became her guardian, put it that way, I became her guardian."
