An Indian student in North Carolina has been told he can't wear an eagle feather during graduation.
Corey Bird, a senior at Purnell Swett High School, was initially told he could wear the feather on his gown. But during a recent meeting, he said the policy changed.
Bird received the feather from his father, Samuel Bird. The family is Lumbee and Sisseton-Wahpeton.
The Birds are asking the Lumbee Tribe to intervene. More than 10,000 Indian students are enrolled in Robeson County public schools, The Fayetteville Observer reported.
