Mother and daughter graduate from Haskell University

A mother and daughter from the Warm Springs Tribes of Oregon will receive their degrees from Haskell Indian Nations University on Friday.

Ashley Aguilar was studying for her associate’s degree in business administration when she felt homesick. So she convinced her mother, Valerie Switzler, and the rest of their family to lave the Warm Springs Reservation and move to Lawrence, Kansas.

Switzler, who attended Haskell in the early 1980s but didn't finished, decided to return to school. She will receive her bachelor's degree in Indian studies.

Aguilar's older sister and husband also attend Haskell. Her two younger sisters plan on attending as well.
