Montana governor to host tribal leaders summit

Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) will convene the 2008 tribal leader's summit on Monday.

More than 100 tribal leaders, representing the eight tribes in the state, are expected to attend. They will get a chance to share their concerns with state officials and influence state policy.

"After visiting with tribal governments this winter and spring, I look forward to continuing our work together to get things done in Indian Country," Schweitzer said.

The state is home to seven federally recognized tribes and one state recognized tribe that is awaiting a final decision on its federal status.

The summit takes place at the state Capitol in Helena from 8:30am to 2pm.
