A Native man from Canada has dropped efforts to obtain a U.S. green card.
Peter Roberts is a member of the Campbell River Indian Band of British Columbia. He asserted his rights under the
Jay Treaty to cross the border freely.
But government documents show that he is not at least 50 percent Indian, a requirement for the treaty card.
So he agreed to accept another type of immigration card that requires him to live in the U.S.
Roberts' daughter also was issued a treaty card but hers was revoked because she doesn't meet the blood quantum requirement.
