Pine Ridge school receives $1M anonymous gift

The Red Cloud Indian School on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota received a $1 million anonymous donation, the largest in its history.

The donation came from a Washington, D.C.-area couple. It will be used to complete a $2.5 million renovation and expansion of the school.

“This is a historic day for Red Cloud,” Fr. Peter Klink SJ, the school's president, said in a statement. “This extraordinary gift is an outstanding ‘jumping-off’ point for our goal to enhance our brick and mortar, while meeting the increasing needs for enhanced opportunities in science and Lakota studies education.”

The school must raise $1 million in matching funds to receive the donation.
