Mi'kmaq in Newfoundland accept recognition

Members of the Federation of Newfoundland Indians voted to accept a deal for federal recognition with the Canadian government.

The agreement recognizes the Qalipu Mi'kmaq Band under the federal Indian Act. No land or hunting rights are included in the deal.

The agreement requires final approval by the Canadian government.
