Ceremony honors Lori Piestewa and Native soldiers

A sunrise service was held on Monday to honor all fallen Native soldiers and Lori Piestewa, a member of the Hopi Tribe of Airzona who was killed in Iraq.

The ceremony took place at Piestewa Peak in Phoenix. The state renamed the landmark in honor of Piestewa, the first Native woman to die in combat.

Piestewa was killed on March 23, 2003, when her unit was ambushed in southern Iraq. Four of her fellow soldiers attended the service.
