A study of two Indian Health Service clinics in Montana found that 6 percent of Indian women are infected with hepatitis C.
The rate among the general population is only 1 percent. The disparity prompted state and tribal officials to start a public awareness about hepatitis C, cannot be cured.
IHS epidemiologist Christine Dubray looked at data of Indian women who went for prenatal care at the clinics.
