Nez Perce Tribe hopes to expand hunt in Montana

The Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho still wants to expand its treaty hunt in Montana, an official said.

The tribe has been hunting near Yellowstone National Park under an 1855 treaty. But when the tribe sought to extend the hunt and take more bison and some elk, the state objected.

The tribe decided to cut the hunt short last week. Fish and Wildlife Commission Chairman Joseph Oatman said the tribe is evaluating the hunt and looking at ways to expand it.
