Indigenous leaders seek to heal environment

More than 200 indigenous leaders from the United States, Canada and Mexico are meeting in Mexico for the Indigenous People to Heal Our Mother Earth meeting.

Participants said they wanted to bring an indigenous perspective to solving environmental issues. "Our Mother Earth is being polluted at an alarming rate, and our elders say that she is dying," Tlingit elder Raymond Sensmeier said, the Associated Press reported.

The conference began on Monday in Palenque, near an historic Mayan city.
