Red Lake families sue crisis management firm

Nearly two dozen families from the Red Lake Reservation in Minnesota are suing a crisis management firm.

The families say MacNeil Environmental Inc. failed to provide an adequate emergency plan for the public school on the reservation. As a result, the families say the school wasn't equipped to deal with the March 21, 2005, shootings that left seven students and staff dead.

The shooter, 16-year-old Jeff Weise, was a former student. He shot his grandfather and his grandfather's girlfriend at their home before going to the school. He took his own life at the school.
