County plans to restore Cherokee chief's cabin

A county in Tennessee has started an effort to restore the home of Cherokee Chief John Ross.

Ross lived in Bradley County at the time of the forced removal of the Cherokee people. He was taken from his log cabin home and imprisoned on November 7, 1835.

County officials don't know the exact age of the cabin. Very few of them knew about its existence until a few years ago.

The Cherokees re-established themselves in Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. Ross continued to serve as chief until 1865 [Wikipedia].
