Former Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), the only member of Congress convicted in the Jack Abramoff scandal, has been transferred from federal prison to a halfway house.
Ney, who said he is an alcoholic, has been serving a 30-month sentence for making false statements and conspiracy to commit fraud. He was at a minimum security federal prison for nearly a year before being moved to an undisclosed halfway house.
Ney admitted accepting campaign contributions, trips, event tickets and other items of value from Abramoff in exchange for helping Abramoff's tribal clients. He took money from the Tigua Tribe of Texas and promised to pass legislation to reopen the tribe's casino.
