Native teen with cancer starts bone marrow drive

A Native teenager with cancer has launched a campaign to encourage more people to donate bone marrow.

Chantelle Chornoby, 19, is from the War Lake First Nation in Manitoba. She was diagnosed with leukemia in August but hasn't been able to find a matching bone marrow donor.

With few Natives in Canada's bone marrow database, Chornoby hopes to get more signed up. "There's not too many First Nations people on the donors registry, they told me, and if we get more First Nations people on there, then maybe it could help our people," she told CBC News.

Chornoby is undergoing chemotherapy to treat her cancer. She previously beat a rare type of bone cancer when she was 10.
