Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) appointed an Alaska Native to the state Board of Game on Friday.
Craig Fleener, who is Athabascan, will replace Teresa Sager-Albaugh, a former president of the Alaska Outdoor Council.
Sager-Albaugh declined the nomination after Alaska Natives complained about her organization's opposition to Native subsistence rights.
If Sager-Albaugh's appointment had been accepted, there wouldn't have been any Alaska Natives on the board. That would have been a first since the board was founded in 1976.
