Members of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community of Michigan are seeking the removal of Fred Dakota from the tribal council.
Dakota, a former chairman, was elected less than two weeks ago. But critic Deborah Williamson said he "only had minutes to have done something wrong," The Houghton Daily Mining Gazette reported.
Dakota was chairman for 21 years. He was convicted of bribery and tax evasion and served 30 months in federal prison.
