City voters reject peace center at Alcatraz

Voters in San Francisco, California, rejected a ballot proposition to turn Alcatraz Island into a global peace center.

Only 28 percent voted in favor of the non-binding Proposition C. But DaVid, the leader of the effort, said he wouldn't give up the fight.

Plans for the peace center include an Indian center. American Indian Movement founder Dennis Banks, Lakota Chief Avrol Looking Horse and Rosemary Cambra, the chairwoman of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe, supported the proposition.

The National Park Service currently manages Alcatraz.
