NIEA president to deliver education address

National Indian Education Association President Willard Sakiestewa Gilbert will deliver the annual Indian education address on Monday, February 11.

Gilbert, a member of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona, will make recommendations to the No Child Left Behind Act, address high school reform and discuss putting language and culture into daily curriculum. He will also talk about federal funding for Indian education.

"We must increase education spending. After many years of debate, our NIEA Membership is counting on us to deliver on our promise of reform for the public schools. We can do that," Gilbert said.

The speech takes place at 9:30am in the First Amendment Lounge at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. NIEA's annual legislative summit kicks off later that day and ends on Wednesday, February 13.
