Navajo Nation Council delegate Kee Allen Begay is a Republican but he won't be supporting Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) for president.
Begay says McCain hasn't done much for the Navajo Nation and other tribes in Arizona.
“Mr. McCain supports sending billions of billions of dollars overseas, just so that we are ‘friendly’ with these countries. I think the Navajo Nation is only asking for a fraction of such funding for the betterment of the Navajo people,” Begay told The Gallup Independent.
Begay doesn't think any of the other candidates are reaching out to Indian Country either.
“Of course, the Native American issues are just tucked on the back burner and with Indian voting outcome not a major factor, we will only continue to struggle with the next administration," he added.
McCain served twice as chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. His closest rival for the Republican party's nomination for president. is former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
