Mother, daughter sentenced for beating Native girl

A mother and her daughter were sentenced on Friday for pleading guilty to beating a 13-year-old Native girl in Lewiston, Idaho.

Jill R. Grant, 40, and Ashley N. Grant, 21, had been charged under the state's hate crimes law. But they pleaded guilty to lesser charges.

The incident took place on September 12. The Native girl reportedly approached a group of people who were talking about "white pride" and "white power" and asked about "Native pride."

Four other people -- including Grant's son -- were charged in connection with the crime. All are under the age of 22, including a 16-year-old boy.
