The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday affirmed a victory for Indian voters in South Dakota.
The unanimous decision requires the city of Martin to redraw its district boundaries. The court upheld a judge's finding that Indian voting rights were diluted.
Martin is adjacent to the Rosebud Sioux Reservation and the Pine Ridge Reservation. The population in the city is about 36 percent Indian, but they have never been able to elect a candidate of their choice.
