The Bureau of Indian Affairs is hosting a law enforcement summit in BIllings, Montana, this week.
Pat Ragsdale, the head of law enforcement at the BIA, said the agency doesn't have enough money to address crime on reservations. He encouraged tribal law officers to take a proactive approach.
"Sometimes that means just talking to them," Ragsdale said, The Billings Gazette reported. "Collectively, we can make things better as opposed to giving up."
The summit brings together law enforcement agencies in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Alaska. Topics include jurisdiction, corrections and community policing.
