Authorities in Denver, Colorado, say a leader of the Pechanga Band of Luiseño
Indians who was in town for the Democratic National
Convention. was the victim of homicide.
Gabriel Pico, 41, died on September 1 after a scuffle outside a strip club. The autopsy report said he was placed in a choke hold that cut off oxygen to his brain.
Two men have been arrested and charged with second-degree assault in connection with the August 30 incident. A third man -- possibly a bouncer at the club -- was involved, according to authorities.
Pico was elected to the tribal council in July. He was not a delegate to the DNC but attended events during the week.
