Women's shelter in South Dakota finds new home

The Pretty Bird Woman House domestic violence shelter has a new home in McLaughlin, South Dakota.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the shelter's location in a downtown home. Pretty Bird Woman House raised about $80,000 online to buy the home and make improvements.

"Tomorrow, we call Century 21. Then, we purchase the house," Georgia Little Shield told The Rapid City Journal. "We'll move over there right away, and hopefully by the end of March, be ready to shelter."

The shelter's last home was lost to fire and vandalism. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has donated a small space in the meantime.

McLaughlin is located within the borders of the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. About 55 percent of the population is Native.
