"The answer: Yes, it certainly was.
The question: Was that the sound of real Navajo leadership we heard?
The newspaper's weekend interview with Shiprock's three delegates to the Navajo Nation Council, which is the tribe's version of Congress, provided a much-needed sign of hope.
The two delegates sure said the right things, and of late, that alone is a solid step in Navajo leadership of which the Navajo people and their neighbors desperately plead to hear more.
Leonard Anthony and GloJean Todacheene, both longtime educators, recently completed their first year in a four-year term as Navajo Council delegates. They head to the Navajo Nation capital of Window Rock, Ariz., this week to begin their second year.
From their words, it appears their hearts are in the right place.
From their actions, the Navajo people cling to a curious wait-and-see mode in anxious hope that good things promised so many times before might actually someday happen."
