California Indian Legal Services questioned by GAO

California Indian Legal Services used federal funds to buy liquor and used federal funds to pay late fees, according to a forthcoming Government Accountability Office investigation.

The Associated Press said it obtained a copy of the report. It questioned spending by 14 of 138 legal aid organizations overseen by Legal Services Corp., a nonprofit that is funded by Congress.

According to the AP, federal funds can't be used to by liquor. But Devon Lomayesva, the executive director of California Indian Legal Services, denied any rule violations.
