Editorial: College will help Tohono O'odham Nation

"Tohono O'odham Community College is about to bloom, increasing enrollment fivefold, erecting a permanent campus with dormitories and preserving the tribe's ancient culture even amid the modernization.

These changes hinge on a new capital campaign in which the college aims to raise $18 million, adding to the $6 million already provided by the Tohono O'odham Nation.

We wish the tribe success with this mission, and not merely for the benefit of the tribe.

Tribal members' rich contributions to our society already - from NASA research to environmental law, from diabetes prevention discoveries to unique arts and crafts - will multiply radically given these improvements in Tohono O'odham higher education. "
