A 19-year-old member of the Narragansett Tribe of Rhode Island was stabbed while he was attending a powwow hosted by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts.
Norman Gonsalves suffered a punctured liver and diaphragm and a collapsed lung, his mother Bella Noka said. She said he was trying to break up a fight when he was stabbed early Sunday morning.
Authorities said Gonsalves is in stable condition at a hospital in Massachusetts. No one has come forward with an account of the incident, police said.
