Tribal colleges discuss climate change at conference

Climate change and its effect on Native communities were topics of discussion at the at the 27th annual American Indian Higher Education Consortium conference in North Dakota on Monday.

The Indigenous Environmental Network encourages tribal college students to come up with local solutions to the global issue. The Turtle Mountain Community College, for example, built straw bale buildings to cut down on gas emissions.

"The first thing to do is educate yourself, then spread the word," Kandi Mossett of IEN told attendees, The Bismarck Tribune reported.

The conference runs through Thursday.
