"Perhaps it's this year of struggles with UND's logo and nickname, where I read and heard some pretty awful remarks about Indian people, that made me believe prejudice permeated our country and would influence the election. I assumed Barack Obama would have a hard time winning even the first caucus because he's black.
But after Obama's Iowa win, I began to believe he could win the presidential nomination.
Hillary Rodham Clinton, former first lady and current New York senator, had all aces in her hand, it seemed. A few weeks ago, I even suggested she would win the Iowa nomination from that point of view.
That something called charisma emanated from Obama Thursday evening. He seemed to reach out from the television and say what I wanted to hear. His win, however, reminded me of the year former Sen. Gary Hart ran for the presidency. I met Hart through a friend in Washington. When he shook my hand, there was just something about him - I don't know, maybe a spark; but it said he would be a great president."
