The Ho-Chunk Nation is reintroducing bison to its ancestral homeland in Wisconsin.
The tribe started n 1997 with four animals. The herd's grown to 385 and will number about 1,000 in a few years.
Richard Snake, herd manager for the tribe's Muscoda Bison Prairie Ranch, says bison were a steady part of a traditional diet. Now, diabetes and obesity are common across Indian Country.
"If you watch old movies, you never see a chubby Indian or a sick Indian," he tells The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
