The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation is the first in North Dakota to contract law enforcement from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The tribe's police force got off the ground in November. The official changeover will be marked at a ceremony today. "It’s about Indian self determination and governance," tribal government services director Dawn Charging told The Dickinson Press. The tribe's e law enforcement budget will be $2 million in 2008. Frank Felix is the tribe's police chief. He will oversee four police officers. Get the Story:
