Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter (D) said his new budget includes $2.1 million for the Ute Indian Museum.
The money will help the museum expand. Plans call for a 5,000 square-foot expansion of the 1,900 square-foot facility.
The museum is built on the former homestead of Chief Ouray and his wife, Chipeta.
About 20,000 people visit each year.
