A 21-year-old woman accused of leaving her newborn baby in a bathroom at a Wal-Mart in Saskatchewan pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.
The woman was seen entering and exiting the Wal-Mart on May 21. An employee later found the baby in a bathroom stall.
The woman came forward after video of the incident was broadcast across Canada. Her baby, a boy, was turned over to the Indian Child and Family Services agency on the Lac La Ronge First Nation.
A judge has imposed a ban on the publication of the woman's name. The child shares the same last name.
Some news organizations are opposing the publication ban. A separate hearing is being scheduled.
The Wal-Mart store is located in Prince Albert, a city near several reserves.
