Urban Indian organization receives $500K grant

An urban Indian organization in Rapid City, South Dakota, has won a $500,000 grant to fight poverty and provide more services.

The Society for the Advancement of Native Interests-Today received the grant from the Northwest Area Foundation. "It is very good news," SANI-T executive director Laurette Pourier told The Rapid City Journal.

The group will use the money to develop a youth program and a workforce program.

Rapid City is home to about 6,000 Native Americans, about 10 percent of the total population.
