Forrest Tahdooahnippah, a member of the Comanche Nation, is competing in his first cross-country meet for the University of Minnesota this Saturday. Tahdooahnippah didn't originally plan on going to Minnesota for law school. He was accepted to law school at Stanford University, where he obtained his undergraduate degree. But then his best friend at Stanford committed suicide in April. Maurice Morsette was a member of the Three Affiliated Tribes of North Dakota. "He had a very tough final semester at Stanford," Teresa Whitman, Tahdooahnippah's mother, told The Minneapolis Star Tribune. "His close friend committed suicide. There was a lot of sorrow on the Stanford campus for him." Tahdooahnippah decided to move back to Minnesota and enroll there for law school. He knows he will be busy but between studying and running, he is optimistic he will be able to handle both. "I give my max to both of them. But if you want to call me during the week, I'm not answering my phone, I am not watching TV, I'm not doing anything. I do not have any other hobbies. Just those two," he told the paper.
