A whooping cough outbreak that affected the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians appears to have subsided.
Tribal members made up the majority of cases diagnosed in the state. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention came to the reservation to prevent the respiratory bacterial infection from spreading.
Tribal members were vaccinated and treated. One CDC expert is staying until the end of the week to analyze data.
It wasn't clear how the outbreak began but officials said it didn't start on the reservation.
