Bill that changes Sacagawea dollar sent to Bush

The Native American $1 Coin Act was sent to President Bush for his signature on Tuesday.

The bill authorizes new designs for the back of the Sacagawea dollar coin. The front will still contain an image of the young Shoshone woman who helped Lewis and Clark on their journey to the West.

The designs will be approved by the Department of Treasury in consultation with the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, the House Congressional Native American Caucus, the National Congress of American Indians, the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.
