Northwest Native youth attend leadership summit

About 60 high school students are attending the fourth annual Northwest Native Youth Leadership Summit this week.

The students will focus on tribal sovereignty and treaties at the weeklong summit. They will also work to promote HB1495, a new state law that encourages public schools to teach about Indian history.

The summit is being held at Washington State University. The state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and Northwest Indian College are co-sponsors.
